GFW has been going through some big changes lately. Alberto El Patron has been suspended and had his World Title stripped from him, Tyrus has decided to sit out this set of TV tapings, and now it looks like “The Pope” D’Angelo Dinero is on his way out of the promotion. He announced the news today on Instagram. While he didn’t say “GFW” by name, it certainly appears that he’s leaving:
“The clock is ticking, never standing still, yet memories will come, in floods they will. This was no surprise as things began to click, when negotiations stalled because of arithmetics. In arriving hello is easy to say, in departing it’s different as some will sway. But no not me as I look towards the sky, for there’s a reason I’ve always walked with my head held high. Although the past will come trickling around and through, the future is bright with much things for me to do. So thanks to my friends and staff who showed me goodwill, because those memories are the only moments that makes the clock stand still.” ~PHS
Soucek’s Analysis: While Pope could be a bit grating on commentary, at one point he seemed like a sure-fire star in the company (as much as one could be in TNA/GFW). Early in the Hulk Hogan/Eric Bischoff era, Pope was getting a good reaction from the crowd, and management was getting behind him in a big way. Unfortunately, he suffered an injury while he had a bit of momentum and his character never quite recovered. However, he also did leave the company once, so it’s certainly possible he’ll return someday.
