Opening Intros, NHL Talk, Etc. 0:00-30:30
We start with Edge giving Christian trouble about always having to kick off the show. They banter back and forth and move on to talking about the great Dusty Rhodes, who has now been gone for two years. They both miss him a lot and talk about how genuine he was. Christian always had great respect for him but appreciated Dusty even more after they became friends. He tells a story about how they both sat next to each other at the 2014 Hall of Fame Ceremony, and had a blast, especially during the Mr. T speech, which left them laughing throughout.
The boys quickly cover the Stanley Cup finals, which saw the Pittsburgh Penguins winning over the Nashville Predators. Edge reminds us that he had predicted a Pens victory, but makes sure to note that he is not a fan. They loved how the Predators used Bobby Roode’s “Glorious” theme during the playoffs, who just so happens to be their guest today.
Edge recently received a message from William Regal, who included a clip of one of their matches from the early 2000s against each other in Japan. They both have fond memories of that match, and if any fans out there have a copy, send it Edge’s way. Edge didn’t know how to adapt to Regal’s style at first, but once they got out there, they had great chemistry.
We then receive an interruption from the Stone Cold impersonator, who begins singing the “Glorious” theme in anticipation for the big interview…after a quick commercial break.

Interview with Bobby Roode 31:45 – 1:27:00
Back from break, and Mr. Roode is on the phone. He just got back from a tour, which was the Download Festival in the UK. Edge had never wrestled in front of a concert audience, so he wanted to know what it was like. Bobby said that it was fun and that they wrestled under a tent, which could hold up to 1,000 people but had enough outside visibility for others to see.
E & C talk about what a great year Bobby is having, and how great his theme song is. Edge cannot wait until the build up to his main roster debut, and how the crowd will react when they hear that song on Raw or Smackdown for the first time. Roode never imagined having that type of theme, but really likes it, and notes how successful the song has been for him, from the Glorious Takeover entrances to the Nashville Predators using it. He was amazed how the song had close to a million downloads before his debut last year at Takeover: Brooklyn. They all talk about how having a popular entrance/theme song is half the battle, with regards to success in professional wrestling, and Bobby notes that it’s one thing to be presented as a star, and another to actually be one. He works hard to prove himself in the ring day in and day out. Christian remembers that when he first broke out as a solo heel, he was presented with the “At Last” theme song, and didn’t know if he could enter to that, as it was completely different. He then realized that this was a good thing, and embraced it. Bobby says that originally, he was supposed to have a different song, but that changed when Triple H brought him the “Glorious” theme and asked what he thought. He initially felt that it could be bad or really great, but it was a blessing in disguise.
Edge notes that he worked with Bobby really early in his career, and knew after the first spot, that they’d have a good match. Roode only had about eight matches under his belt at the time, and was really excited after that, but felt his passion dwindle after he had rough experiences in Puerto Rico. He almost even quit the business, but he remained motivated to keep working. It was after this that he began wrestling in Canada and through some tours really got the experience that he was looking for, which invigorated his passion again. Throughout, he kept in touch with Tom Prichard, who was with the WWE at the time, and would work dark matches for the company over the next couple of years. In 2002, he was asked by the WWE if he’d be interested in going to a developmental camp, and working in Cincinnati. Unfortunately, a week later, they ended up closing that system, and moved everything to OVW, so his development offer was dropped. He continued working, and in 2004 got the call about working for TNA.
Christian interrupts, as he feels that Bobby is trying to avoid something. They talk tough here on the Pod, and they are going to discuss…Bobby’s unique hairstyles throughout his early work with the WWE. Yes, Roode admits he’d do anything to get noticed, and would continuously change his style, per encouragement from the company. It got to the point that he thought he was being ribbed. Don’t worry fans, if you’ve ever wanted to see a bleached blonde Bobby Roode, with a purple cape, feel free to check out the link here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fG4yBzlhEaE
Talk moves towards the end of his Impact career, and he discusses how the different schedule of him working nine days straight, then being off for months at a time, wasn’t having a great effect on his body. He notes how he got in the business to be in the business, and wanted to travel, and work matches week in and week out. By the end, he felt he was just spinning his wheels, and didn’t like his job, so he finished up his dates, and they mutually parted ways.
He had remained friends with Samoa Joe and Austin Aries, who were both at NXT. The day that he was finished with Impact, he got a call from Matt Bloom, and a week and a half later, another one from Triple H. These conversations were gauging his interest in the company and looking at a variety of options, including him even being a coach. They decided to start slow, and go from there, which led to him being asked to be at NXT: Takeover WrestleMania Weekend. Once he arrived, he knew immediately that’s where he needed to be. It may have taken him a while to get to the WWE, but he believes that timing is everything, and wouldn’t change anything about his career. Throughout his time at Impact, he got to work with phenomenal people that helped educate him, and build up his experience, from Kurt Angle, to Christian, to Nash, to Booker T, to RVD.
Edge believes that the company knew that he could be a top player in NXT, and uses Bobby’s build up to the top as an example. Roode says that NXT is an amazing place to work. The schedule can be busy at times, but the company takes very good care of the wrestlers. It is a great atmosphere, and he loves being a top player, but he has his goals set for that main roster spot, as his dream is to compete at a WrestleMania. Christian believes that true talent will always shine through no matter what, and knows that Bobby will be a success. Roode notes that it’s all about making the most out of the opportunities that are given. Speaking of WrestleMania, what is his dream match? For Bobby, John Cena is first and foremost, as he has been the main guy for over a decade. He also looks forward to squaring off against Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, Bray Wyatt, and Randy Orton, which E & C would love to see as well.

Jeff’s Take: 7 Kazoos out of 10
Good episode this week. I am a big fan of Mr. Roode, and I, along with many, sing out loud to the “Glorious” theme song. At less than an hour, I wish they could’ve had a lengthier discussion, but it was still great to get his perspective on his theme song and hear them reminisce about his past. Definitely looking forward to that main roster debut. Feel free to follow me on Twitter @the_Indel or send me an email at indelpw@gmail.com. See you next week!
About the Author
Jeff has been a fan of professional wrestling since he was knee high to a grasshopper (little kid), after coming across the Wrestling Challenge episode after WrestleMania 7, and has not looked back. His passion has led him to winning wrestling trivia contests in his city and even won him his Senior Talent Show by dancing to Shawn Michaels theme song. When not annoying others with wrestling talk, he loves spending time with his family and friends, and focuses on his other passion: movies.
