“You Think You Know Them” (Recap)
Q & A
When you were Tag Team Champions, did each of you own a specific belt?
Christian: When we first won the belts, one had a scuff mark, which eventually became Edge’s. You can see after certain matches that if we got handed the wrong one, we’d switch them.
Was there any particular foods that you used to eat to fuel up before a match?
Edge tried not to eat before a match due to biological reasons. Christian was the same way, and would stop eating around 3pm. To keep his energy up, he would wander around, and just sip coffee before a match.
Football players sometimes exchange game jerseys, do wrestlers do something similar?
Christian wasn’t good at saving his memorabilia, and while he got better at it, he wishes he would have done more of it. Edge saved everything for the future, and did exchange gear with The Undertaker after their WrestleMania 24 match. (Edge gave him his kick pads & tights, while Taker gave him his gloves.)
Have you ever met someone that made you star-struck?
Edge has three: Hulk Hogan, James Hetfield of Metallica, and Kiss. Christian also mentions Hulk Hogan, and Rob Reiner.
What is your favorite metal band?
Edge can’t just say one, and goes down an abbreviated history of metal. Christian likes Metallica.
Are you guys going to watch the UK Championship Tournament on the WWE Network?
Christian will be in London at the time, so maybe he’ll buy a ticket and just watch it live. Edge doesn’t know when, but he’ll watch it at some point.
Who would win a match between TNA World Champion Christian & WWE World Champion Christian?
When Christian went to TNA, he needed the chance to know if he could work at the top of the card and stay there. The time there gave him the confidence and tools to grow as a wrestler. When he returned to the WWE, he felt like he was a different, better performer. Therefore, WWE World Champion Christian wins.
Can Edge talk about his 2004/2005 rivalry with Shawn Michaels?
It was the jumping point for Edge’s heel turn, and was a lot of fun. They had some good matches, but there wasn’t much with regards to the storyline other than the fact that Edge’s character was really angry. Behind the scenes, Shawn was given the challenge to see if he could get Edge to the next level, and I think it worked out.
What’s your best memory of working the independent scene?
The Indies are so different than how they used to be, and wrestlers have more opportunities to make a living and market themselves. Christian just always wanted to work with those who had more experience than him, as he wanted to learn and get better. Edge echoes that, and remembers getting the chance to wrestle The Rougeaus, Big Boss Man, and John Tenta (Earthquake).
If you could recast Saved by the Bell, who would you guys play?
Edge: Watch the upcoming Season 2 of the Edge and Christian Show.
Do you play the WWE video games?
That’s a no for Edge. Christian tried playing them in the past but didn’t really because he did it for a living.
Who would you say was the most influential person in terms of guidance and advice?
Michael Hayes was pivotal for Edge, and even put in a good word for him at the beginning of his career. Both mention Pat Patterson, and Christian adds Fit Finlay and Arn Anderson as well.
Before you were Edge & Christian, were there any other tag team names discussed?
Not really in the WWE, but when they went to Japan, they were announced as Adam & Jay, the Canadian Rocky’s. E & C tell a humorous story about originally thinking they were called Canadian Hockey, due to the Japanese accent.
How would your careers have turned out if you’d never met each other?
Christian doesn’t know if he would have had one. Both of them would’ve still pursued a career in the business, but it wouldn’t have been the same. They had the same goals, and were a good support system for each other.
Six-sided ring or traditional?
Edge: Traditional. Christian gets that six-sided ring looked different, but it was a little awkward to wrestle in, so traditional as well.
If you were just breaking into the business, would you want to be like Cody Rhodes and wrestle independently, or would you still be focused on making it to the WWE?
Christian reiterates the statement earlier about independent wrestling being different, but both of them agree that the end goal is still to make it to the WWE.
Thoughts on Drew McIntyre?
Christian has always been a fan of Drew’s, both from a personal and professional standpoint. He’s a good guy that has all the tools to get to the top. Edge agrees, and they both discuss how his initial release from the company was the best thing that could happen to him. He’s now confident and looks awesome. If the company’s smart, they’ll make him a top guy.
Jeff’s Take: 8 Kazoos out of 10
This was just a nice, light listen that you can have on in the background, hear some interesting tidbits, and move on. None of the questions or answers were earth shattering, but that was okay, and you need episodes like this in order to keep it fresh. I’m always a fan of Q & A’s anyway, so it was fun.
